Carmen is a Registered Psychologist in Alberta. She completed a Master’s Degree in Psychology and is currently completing a Doctor of Psychology degree. Throughout her twenty-five-year career in the field of mental health, Camern has worked in community mental health, large employee assistance programs, outpatient psychiatry, trauma, addiction treatment, and private practice. She spent several years in Africa with Nongovernmental Organizations, where she created, managed, and ran creative mental health programs in resource-limited regions. Currently, she serves as Director of Mental Health at Sun Life, where she is a thought leader and contributor to the mental health strategy. This strategy advises employers on psychological health and safety in the workplace, the prevention of disability due to mental disorders, and helps disabled employees regain a state of well-being.  Carmen is a member of the Board of Directors of the Psychological Association of Alberta and a Senator in the University of Alberta Senate. Previous board experience includes serving on the Board of Directors of the Canadian Psychological Association and its Professional Affairs Committee.

She is actively involved in provincial and national working groups for mental health-related topics, including chronic pain and addiction, while also maintaining an active private practice. She has been active in providing training and education to health care professionals on disability due to mental disorders and regularly delivers public talks on mental health-related topics. She is committed to providing informed and evidence-based mental health support to individuals and organizations while reducing the stigma associated with mental illness.

While not working, her priority is spending time with her daughter, in her community and travelling. In her free time, she greatly enjoys the mountains - skiing in the winter and wandering in the woods in the summer.

She is passionate and driven to positively affect the lives of Canadians through education on mental health and advocating for access to and evidence-based services.
